So heartwarming Kate! One of my greatest fears in life is being held against my will, taken away like my mother was time and time again. Wow! I’m at a loss for words. Your words, however, have touched my heart. I have a best friend of 53 years. I know the power of a loving friendship. It can get one through the very worst of times and bring added joy to the best of times.
This is everything, " love my people loudly" and "the lingering belief that this messy, madness-filled self of mine belonged in at least one tiny corner of the world". That we are allowed to take up space and love loudly and be loved loudly. That we can claim our own humanity in a way.
